Fort Point Theatre Channel’s
Party & Exhibit
Party: Thursday, January 11, 2018
Exhibit: Through January 31, 2018
The 23 co-artistic directors of Fort Point Theatre Channel invited everyone to join them in celebrating FPTC’s 10th anniversary. There was free music, dance, spoken words, and visual art, plus food and drink donated by local merchants.
Reborn for the occasion was the Carny Band. Its original music highlighted Carny Knowledge: A Sideshow Extravaganza, Dreambook: A New Orleans Story, and other FPTC productions. Special guest, Peter Tork of the Monkees, rejoined the Carny Band for the party!
The exhibit featured a panoply of memories from the many artists who have worked with the organization. The works on display included sketches, posters, videos, sound recordings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, costumes, props, set pieces, and underwear.
All this took place in the Midway Studios Gallery at Midway Artist Studios, Boston’s largest affordable live-work building. Midway Artist Studios was born in 2005 as an affordable place for artists to live and work in Boston, when the real estate boom displaced hundreds of working artists from Fort Point. In 2014, the artists organized to purchase the building and make it permanently artist-controlled.
